New Captain Marvel Video Connects Her To Marvels Biggest Avengers

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been on a serious roll in the past few years, as Phase Three is arguably the most successful set of films in the massive franchise. Every single blockbuster in Phase Three has been a critical and box office success, with The Russo Brothers doing the impossible in Avengers: Infinity War. Following Thanos' finger snap of death, fans are eager to see the surviving Avengers (and Rocket) will fight the Mad Titan and hopefully reverse the affects of his devastating victory.

The good guys are going to need all the help they can get in order to defeat Titan, especially after so many fan favorite characters faded to dust due to Thanos' snap (aka The Decimation). Cue Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, who will finally join the MCU with her 90's origin story Captain Marvel. Fans are eager to see her interact with characters like Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America, and a new TV spot for Captain Marvel actually features those characters. Check it out.

While Captain Marvel is going to feature plenty of familiar faces, the fandom is eager to see her interact with the biggest stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This new trailer teases that, while also revealing that Carol Danvers will have her own origin story, unique to the ones we'd seen in Phase One with Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger. Let the anticipation and fan theories begin.

This new Captain Marvel TV Spot is pretty epic, and is an example of the brilliant marketing Marvel Studios is known for. While Captain Marvel has enough going for it to get fans hyped, the blockbuster's connection to Avengers: Endgame adds another level of anticipation and interest from the generations of MCU fans. The studio is usually cued into fan expectations and feedback, so hammering in Carol Danver's upcoming connection to the greater shared universe is a great way to keep moviegoers interested until Captain Marvel finally arrives in a few weeks.

Captain Marvel's entrance into the MCU was teased during the mid-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War. The thrilling sequence focused Nick Fury and Maria Hill at the moment Thanos snaps his finger, with the audience seeing the chaotic affects of The Decimation in real-time. Hill and Fury both faded to dust as a result of Thanos' victory, although Samuel L. Jackson's cycloptic hero was able to call Carol Danvers for help with the use of a pager in his final moments. The survivors are going to need help to fill out their ranks, with Captain Marvel's myriad powers no doubt coming into use when Endgame is released.

Brie Larson's character has been teased to be quite a strong personality, so it'll be great to see how she interacts with the surviving characters of the MCU. It's been teased that she's quite similar to Chris Evans' Captain America, believing she knows what's best, and often clashing with those who oppose her. But considering she's been a hero for decades and has a ton of fantastic abilities, you can't fault her confidence.

Captain Marvel may be set years before Tony Stark changed the world in Iron Man, but that doesn't mean she'll be all alone on an island for the project. In fact, there's quite a few familiar faces in the upcoming blockbuster. Her return to Earth will put Carol Danvers in direct contact with a younger (and two eyed) version of Nick Fury, as well as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. favorite Phil Coulson. The origin of Fury's eye injury and the Infinity War beeper should be explained, as well as the mission that put he and Coulson on their path to assembling The Avengers.

But Captain Marvel isn't merely set on Earth, as the project will also focus on the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Guardians of the Galaxy characters Ronan and Korath will appear as well, allowing for their stories to be expanded in a way that even James Gunn wasn't able to do in the first Guardians flick. So while Carol Danvers is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe just before Phase Three concludes, her origin story will be deeply connected to the long standing franchise.

It should also be interesting to see exactly how Captain Marvel sets up her crossover in Avengers: Endgame. Aside from handing Nick Fury the pager that he'd eventually use during Infinity War's final moments, the rabid fanbase will expect at least a taste of her eventual appearance alongside the surviving Avengers and Guardians. The most obvious opportunity for this would be through the film's credits scene, therefore allowing the blockbuster to stand on its own two feet. Still, the MCU is known for keeping moviegoers on their toes, so it seems like just about anything is possible.

Once Captain Marvel finally arrives in theaters, perhaps we'll also get a glimpse of her eventual appearance in Avengers: Endgame. The first two brief Endgame trailers didn't feature any shots of Carol Danvers, likely because audience don't have the emotional connection to Brie Larson's MCU hero just yet. In fact, there are some cinephiles who think that a character was cut out of the footage from Endgame's Super Bowl trailer, as there are noticeable gaps in the quick shots of the upcoming blockbuster. While the Russo Brothers could have just about anything up their sleeves, the final month before Phase Three ends will likely focus on the inclusion of Captain Marvel, and the strength and hope she'll likely give the survivors of Thanos' snap.

Avengers: Endgame is also believed to be heavily focused on time travel, as photos from the set revealed the Battle of New York from the first Avengers will be a focus in the upcoming blockbuster. While some Marvel fans believe Scott Lang and the Quantum Realm are the key to traveling through time, Samuel L. Jackson has also teased Carol Danver's time traveling abilities while doing press ahead of Captain Marvel's release.

Carol Danvers will finally make her debut in Captain Marvel on March 8th, and Brie Larson will reprise her Marvel role when Avengers: Endgame wraps up Phase Three on April 26th. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

Why Tessa Thompson And Chris Hemsworth Were Excited To Join The World Of Men In Black

Its not exactly hard to see why the Men In Black franchise would bring aboard Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth as the new leads of the brand. Not only are they both wonderfully talented and immensely popular, but they have also proven to have fantastic chemistry together, as seen in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame. Given all these factors, it makes every kind of sense that they would be cast as the stars of Men In Black International but what adds an interesting wrinkle to the situation is the fact that Thompson and Hemsworth each had their own specific reasons for jumping into the world.

Earlier this month I had the incredible opportunity to fly to London, England to cover the global press day for Men In Black International, and it was while sitting down with Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth that I learned of their interesting individual paths that led to being a part of the movie. While speaking with producers Laurie MacDonald and Walter Parkes at the Men In Black International junket, I had learned that it was the character of Molly a.k.a. Agent M that inspired the return of the Men In Black franchise so its only fitting that part of where Tessa Thompsons enthusiasm for the project came from simply being a fan. Discussing why it was a film she wanted to be a part of, she acknowledged her appreciation of science-fiction that can be grounded in reality, and explained how M really fit the bill for her:

I am such a fan of the original movies; I love the world that they take place in, which is the real world. It's science fiction, but it's set inside of a world that we know and understand. This idea that the world is maybe not exactly what it seems - I love that. And to play this woman who had an experience as a young child, it has made her ever curious about the universe, and feeling like there's some secret that she's been let in on, and that changes her trajectory in her life.

Continuing, Thompson made a note that Agent M possesses an important personality quality that made her feel legitimately connected to the character was her inquisitiveness. Her drive in life is knowing more about the secrets of the universe, and that kind of enthusiasm was not taken for granted by the actress when preparing for her performance. She explained,

My least favorite thing is an incurious person. So I loved getting to play someone like M who is ever curious.

Tessa Thompson also acknowledged the influence of simply getting to reunite with Chris Hemsworth, with whom she gets to have a very different kind of adventure than what weve seen so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was a sentiment shared by Hemsworth as well, but he also added how being a part of Men In Black International was part of a career turn for him.

In the past, Chris Hemsworth has been rather open about some of the more disappointing projects hes taken on like Thor: The Dark World and The Huntsman: Winters War and along similar lines he was very open during my interview admitting that some of the films he did in the past just didnt make for satisfying experiences. This one, however, was one he did because of love for the material and love for his collaborators, and it made for a much better time on set. Said the actor,

When I first read the script, and who was involved, and Tessa and [F. Gary Gray] and so on, I thought, 'This is the reason I love this job. I've done things over the years that I've justified, 'Oh, this is good for this and this reason,' but ultimately didn't have a great time. And the older I get it needs to be an enjoyable process. It felt unique to the original films aesthetically, where we shot all over the world, and with very different characters to what was there before - but still staying true and hitting all the boxes that people loved and appreciated from the originals. We had a blast.

Audiences will get their chance to see the fruit of Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworths labor this weekend, as Men In Black International is hitting theaters across the country. Captain Marvel Reviews: What CinemaBlend Thought Of The Newest Marvel Movie

There have been a lot of expectations for Marvel Studios newest project. Captain Marvel is the first female-led movie from the House of Ideas, which, in the opinion of nearly everybody, is long over due. But has it been worth the wait? Many of us at CinemaBlend have had the chance to see the film and, as per usual, we have a lot of opinions on the topic. Eric Eisenberg wrote the official review for Captain Marvel. He gave the movie four out of five stars and felt the movie was largely the exciting adventure it needed to be, that largely overcomes the manb hurdles set before it. According to the review.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's Captain Marvel is absolutely a blockbuster to which the industry should look as it's doing its part to try and reinvent the wheel, and while doing so serving up a fantastic hero debut within a spectacular and twist-filled, 1990s-set adventure.

While Eric largely thought that Captain Marvel did a great job of being a fresh take at the superhero origin story, that's not to say the film completely avoids every ptfall and trope that comes with it. CinemaBlend writer Sarah El-Mahmoud largely loved the movie as well, but felt that ultimately, the film was a lot of setup for a payoff that has yet to come. Of course, when that payoff comes in any potential sequel, she'll almost certainly be there.

Captain Marvel is the '90s action flick that was missing from my (Disney princess-filled) childhood but better late than never! Brie Larson's Carol Danvers is an unapologetic badass, Sam Jackson's young Nick Fury & Goose the cat have stolen my heart & Lashana Lynch (!!!) There's tons to love about this one & but I was left finding it to be a bit incomplete on its own by the end. It's an origin story that screams sequel!

While Captain Marvel is the last movie before Avengers: Endgame ends many stories of the MCU, it actually takes place prior to the vast majority of them. It's a "period piece" because apparently something taking place in the 90s counts as a period piece now (get off my lawn). This means it gives us new insight into the larger MCU with a look at an era we hadn't seen before. Marketing Editor Adrienne Jones enjoyed the flashback to Marvel's past, and also the cat, of course.

Captain Marvel gives us a fun, action-packed look at the MCU's past that we didn't know we needed. While some of the effects come off as a bit cartoony, this is a great superhero debut from Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson shows us an enjoyable new side to Nick Fury and Goose the cat will not soon be forgotten.

While there are clearly elements that everybody at CinemaBlend enjoyed about Captain Marvel, the fact is that nearly every Marvel movie qualifies as "pretty good" and with the bar now set as high as it is, it's hard for anybody to clear it. CinemaBlend News Director Jessica Rawden was expecting a lot more than she got.

Captain Marvel has some mild laughs, it has some fun action sequences and it has a cat that gets plenty of screen time (if that's your thing). Regardless, its missing the energy, creativity and fun with tone a lot of the better Marvel movies have, and its story is super paint-by-numbers. I didnt leave feeling disappointed, exactly, but I expected more from a character and a movie that had the privilege of taking us to the past while setting up for the MCU of the future. Maybe it was too large of a request. Nothing about Captain Marvel is inherently bad, its just fine, forgettable fluff.

One certainly begins to wonder if marvel is becoming a victim of its own success. Back when the first Iron Man came out, nobody was necessarily expecting it to be revolutionary. The fact that it was good was enough. Now, fans are clearly expecting not just good, but great. Iron Man largely follows the same origin story formula, but since there's wasn't a decade of movies preceding it, nobody was too upset by that. Now, audiences have seen this sort of story before, and there's an expectation to do something different, or at the very least, better.

Having said that, CinemaBlend Editor Adam Holmes seems to accepted the film for what it is, and enjoyed what it brought to the table.

While predictable at times, Captain Marvel is nonetheless an enjoyable watch. It wisely balances its '90s setting with cosmic action, and it did a solid job of setting up Carol Danvers as one of the new leading heroes going forward in the MCU. Samuel L. Jackson also gave a delightful performance as a younger, less cynical Nick Fury, and, of course, Goose the Cat is an absolute treasure. Captain Marvel isn't one of the MCU's most exceptional movies, but it definitely delivers on entertainment.

CB Project Manager Cody Beck is another that was ultimately expecting something more. In addition, he felt Captain Marvel had some pretty rough dialogue and visual effects that really weren't quite up to what we expect from the Oscar nominated Marvel Studios. Also, did we mention the cat was great?

Captain Marvel was a fun ride, but with cookie cutter storytelling. The messages are positive and the exposition abundant, but some of the dialogue used to deliver both is cringeworthy at best. Definitely not my favorite MCU entry, but also not my least favorite. Some of the de-aging and visual special effects didnt seem quite up to par with other huge superhero blockbusters, but Id go again just to see Samuel L Jackson and that scene-stealin', crazy cat.

The superhero origin story is something we've seen countless times before, including many different times from Marvel Studios. At this point, many are just tired of seeing the same formula play out over and over, and it does need to be said Captain Marvel, while it structures the origin in a unique and interesting way, still hits most of the same beats you're probably expecting. Having said that, I actually really enjoy origin stories for exactly those reasons.

I actually love origin story movies because there's nothing quite like that building of anticipation toward "the moment." It can only happen once. Captain Marvel makes you wait. Some things are worth the wait.

If there's a general consensus among CinemaBlend, it's that Captain Marvel is, well, a fun superhero movie. While there was once a time when that was all anybody asked for, and many might still be ok with it, if you were hoping for an Avengers level epic, then you may need to wait until the next actual Avengers movie. Captain Marvel is in theaters now.
