Zombieland 2 Has Cast A Brand New Character

After a decade's worth of stops and false starts, it appears that Zombieland 2 is at last on the way. The sequel is set to begin shooting in January and it will reunite the cast of Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin. At least one new face will be joining the film alongside the quartet as Zoey Deutch has been cast in Zombieland 2.

Zoey Deutch recently starred in Netflix's acclaimed romantic comedy Set it Up and also appeared in last year's The Disaster Artist. Based on the casting news, as reported by Variety, it is unknown whom the actress will be playing in Zombieland 2 at the moment. So we'll have to wait a while to get more details about her role.

Zombieland 2 will pick up with the characters in a world where many of the zombies have been wiped out, in part thanks to the double-tapping work of people like Columbus and Co. But the zombies are not gone, and the remaining ones have evolved over the years to become more dangerous and will likely require far more cardio to be prepared to deal with.

Zombieland 2 will also introduce some new human survivors to the mix and I'd expect Zoey Deutch to be playing one of them and not one of the undead. Without any further details, we're left to speculate about whom the actress might be playing and what city she will derive her Zombieland name from.

An earlier report said that the film will find Columbus, Tallahasse and Wichita attempting to rescue Abigail Breslin's Little Rock, who has run off with an unnamed and potentially dangerous character. There is also may be a character named Madison, who Columbus starts a relationship with. Perhaps one of these two characters (if they aren't the same person) is whom Zoey Deutch is playing in the film.

Whoever she's playing, Zoey Deutch had something of a breakout role on Netflix's Set it Up and she should be a great addition to this cast. While the small group feel of the first film was part of its charm, it will be nice to see the world expand out a little bit and help Zombieland 2 not just feel like a rehash of the first film.

Zombieland 2 reunites the original cast onscreen as well as the directors and writer offscreen. Venom director Ruben Fleischer returns to direct the horror/comedy and Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are back on script duties.

Zombieland 2 is set to release on October 11th of next year, coinciding with the first film's 10th anniversary. But Zombieland 2 is just one of the anticipated titles arriving in 2019, check them all out in our 2019 Release Schedule.

Did The Incredibles Cast Ever Give Up On The Sequel? Sam Jackson, Craig T. Nelson And Holly Hunter Weigh In

Incredibles 2 is a film that fans have been begging for ever since the end credits began to roll on the first one -- but the sequel has certainly taken its sweet time getting here. With writer/director Brad Bird moving on to explore other projects, it's been nearly a full decade-and-a-half since we first saw the Parr family up on the big screen. That amount of time naturally led some to lose faith in the idea that the project was happening, and to turns out that Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter can be counted among them -- though the same cannot be said for Samuel L. Jackson. Click play on the video below to hear their thoughts!

Last week I sat down with the cast of Incredibles 2 at the movie's Los Angeles press day, and when speaking to the stars of the original film, my first question out the gate was in regard to their belief whether or not the project would ever actually happen. I asked if there was any point where they didn't think it was going to be made -- and while Samuel L. Jackson apparently always knew it was going to come together, both Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter revealed that they at one point did move on from the idea.

Citing their reasons why, the actors who play Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl said that they just felt the time had passed for Incredibles 2, Craig T. Nelson literally just saying, 'You give up.' For Samuel L. Jackson, though, what helped him believe was simply occasional contact with Brad Bird. The actor would sometimes see the filmmaker and ask for Frozone updates, and walked away from those interactions with confidence. Said Jackson,

[What helped me keep the faith was] just the fact that Brad was still making movies, and that every time I saw him and I said something to him about it he would go, 'That's going to happen!' One of the last times I saw him he said, 'I have a kernel of an idea.' 'Oh, okay!' That's hope.

So what was it like to get the call from Brad Bird and learn that Incredibles 2 was actually happening? For Samuel L. Jackson, it was essentially an, "About time" response, comedically comparing it to a phone call he may get in the not so distant future:

It will be the same thing that happens when they finally say, 'You know what, we decided Mace Windu's not dead.'

The best news of all is that the wait for fans is almost at an end. Featuring a supporting cast that includes Bob Odenkirk, Catherine Keener, Jonathan Banks, Sophia Bush and more, Incredibles 2 arrives in theaters this Friday, June 15th. How The Star Wars: Episode IX Crew Celebrated Bringing BB-8 Back To Set

The Star Wars franchise is massively iconic, as is each frame, location, and character of George Lucas' epic space opera. You can't have Star Wars without droids, with characters like R2-D2 and C-3PO having delighted generations of fans and decades of blockbusters. The current Star Wars trilogy brought a trio of new human heroes, as well as one robotic one: the always adorable BB-8. Poe Dameron's droid is basically live, rolling merchandise, and was able to capture the hearts of Star Wars fans from the moment he popped up in the opening sequence of The Force Awakens. BB-8 will be back to finish the trilogy with J.J. Abrams' untitled Episode IX, and the lead puppeteer celebrating being back on set with a sweet message to the fans.

Brian Herring has portrayed BB-8 for the droid's entire theatrical run, so it makes sense that he'll be finishing up the trilogy with Episode IX. BB-8's every move is heartwarming and iconic, and Herring is responsible for each robotic side eye and live saving maneuver.

While Brian Herring's message and BB-8's return to the Star Wars franchise aren't surprising, J.J. Abrams' return to the director's chair for Episode IX does give it extra emotional weight. Abrams helped create the new characters that have carried the current trilogy, and BB-8 has managed to rival better known droids in regards to popularity. As with human characters Poe, Finn, and Rey, the director will be able to wrap up BB-8's narrative and possibly even set up future appearances in the galaxy far, far away.

With Rian Johnson developing his own Star Wars trilogy, and standalone films reportedly not going anywhere either, there are a multitude of developing projects within the Star Wars universe. It would likely be a major expense to bring back franchise stars like Daisy Ridley or John Boyega, but Lucasfilm has better control of its droids-- especially nonverbal ones like BB-8. It wouldn't be surprising if BB-8 made it into future movies, likely bringing Brian Herring along for another adventure.

Little is known about Episode IX, although small bits of information have begun trickling out regarding the film's cast, including the return of Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. Unfortunately, we're likely going to be in the dark for some time as the untitled blockbuster begins shooting.

Star Wars: Episode IX will arrive in theaters on December 21st, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
