Regardless of what you thought of Solo: A Star Wars Story, it seems everybody loved Donald Glover's performance as Lando. He was just as suave and stylish as Billy Dee Williams was when he debuted the character in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Glover clearly loved playing the part, but it seems he wasn't the only one who was excited to see him don the cape. The day it was announced I was Lando I was like 'I'm going to go get a pizza and watch Empire Strikes Back', right? So I go to the pizza shop, on the street already people are like 'Lando, Lando' I go into there, he's like 'slice for Lando?' I was kinda freaked out. And then I had to get on a plane the next day, right? I'm in line and he's like 'I can get you through if you sign this Lando.'
News travels pretty fast in the entertainment world and it seems that word of Donald Glover's casting traveled so quickly that even a guy who is probably used to being recognized on the street and getting asked for autographs was "kinda freaked out" by the way people were reacting him. Nobody was talking about Atlanta or Community, everybody was all about Lando. It might be understandable after the movie had come out and everybody had seen it. The fact is that everybody was all about Lando after Solo: A Star Wars Story was released, but at this point, only his casting had been announced, the movie hadn't even gone into production yet.
You'd think Donald Glover would be the one the most excited by the idea that he would be playing Lando Calrissian, and yet, it appears everybody else thought it was just as big a deal.
Of course, if you're wondering, Donald Glover reveals in one of the special features of the Solo: A Star Wars Story Blu-ray that he absolutely signed something in order to jump the line at airport security, because if you can't use your celebrity status as a famous Star Wars character to your own advantage, then what is even the point? After all, you know it's what Lando would do.
Lando was so popular in Solo: A Star Wars Story that fans have certainly wondered if he might get his own spinoff film. While it's unclear if we'll ever see Donald Glover's Lando again, we certainly will see the character, as it's been confirmed that Billy Dee Williams will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars Episode IX. It's unknown if airport security lets Billy Dee Williams jump the line.
