How Chris Evans Convinced Marvel To Let Him See The Avengers: Infinity War Script
At this point, we have reported extensively on the level of secrecy associated with Avengers: Infinity War. The Russo brothers' latest Marvel Cinematic Universe outing promises to change the game in a major way, and few people were ever granted permission to see the project's entire script. That said, it sounds like Captain America actor Chris Evans was able to get his hands on the screenplay, and he apparently did so by making a scene and demanding it. In a recent interview on Good Morning America, Evans explained:
They let me read it. But you gotta get fussy. I mean, the level of secrecy has only increased over the years, and they're so worried about leaks, though, you really kind of have to put your foot down and say, 'Give me the f-, give me the script.' So, they let me.
It's not like Steve Rogers to make a scene and demand things of people, but given the fact that Chris Evans is looking particularly rugged and bearded in his new, Nomad-esque role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems that all bets are off, at least where the actor is concerned. Evans initially wasn't going to get a look at the full Avenger: Infinity War script, but he put his "foot down" and that helped convince the powers that be to let him see the story in its entirety. In fact, he even says he took the script home.
Though we don't know exactly how the whole story went down, we're left wondering if the folks at Marvel Studios felt like Chris Evans earned it. After all, as Evans reminded us in his interview on Good Morning America, his contract is almost up and the odds of him leaving Captain America behind next year with the release of Avengers 4 seem pretty good. With the finish line in sight, it looks like Cap got his way.
Of course, none of this necessarily means that Marvel Studios has not gone to borderline insane lengths to preserve the story of Avengers: Infinity War. The film has remained under tight wraps over the course of its development, production, and post-production processes, and a significant element of that process has involved compartmentalizing. Only certain individuals were given access to specific bits of information, which means that, up until the film's premiere, most members of the cast did not even know the film's overall story.
Avengers: Infinity War will finally see the arrival of Thanos on Earth after six years of buildup from The Avengers ten years of buildup from the original Iron Man. The film follows The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy as they team up for a multi-front battle against The Mad Titan in his quest to obtain all six Infinity Stones and wipe out much of the life in the universe.
Chris Evans will return to the role of Steve Rogers when Avengers: Infinity War premieres later this week on April 27.
