New Avengers: Endgame Clip Reveals Another Dusted Character

Were almost a year removed from Avengers: Infinity War and like the Avengers themselves, we are still tallying the losses from The Decimation wrought by Thanos. Thanks to the posters for Avengers: Endgame, we recently learned that Shuri is indeed among the fallen, and the Avengers will not be able to rely on her brilliance for the war to come. Now a new clip for the upcoming film has revealed that another character, one we havent seen in a while, was dusted: Stellan Skarsgrds Dr. Erik Selvig. Take a look:

Weve seen a bunch of shots like this in the marketing for Avengers: Endgame, where the various surviving heroes look at images of all the missing and dead friends and teammates who fell during Infinity War. As you can see on the left of this screenshot, the new clip from Avengers: Endgame shows that Dr. Erik Selvig, the astrophysicist from the Thor films, has also been reduced to dust.

We last saw Dr. Selvig in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he was one of the team members working at the new Avengers facility in Upstate New York. There he, along with his team of scientists, was presumably working to help the Avengers and the world protect itself against new threats. As Captain Marvel is being shown in the screenshot above and we now see, his mind and knowledge will not be on available to aid the Avengers this time around.

Its been so long since weve seen him that you might have forgotten about Dr. Selvig, but the revelation of his dusting just reminds us that he was a part of this world and the scope of what Thanos did. All the characters weve met over the years of the MCU that were still alive at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War were subject to the indiscriminate culling of The Decimation.

With all that said, heres where things get interesting. We thought Dr. Erik Selvig was alive. The human trio of the first Thor film, Stellan Skarsgrds Dr. Selvig, Kat Dennings Darcy Lewis and Natalie Portmans Jane Foster, all seemed to have survived the snap because they all appear in the novel Avengers: Infinity War: The Cosmic Quest Volume Two: Aftermath.

That book by Brandon T. Snider is about the aftermath of The Decimation. In it, Dr. Selvig and Darcy set out to find and understand the cause of the devastation and in their quest they are aided by Jane Foster. The three are dubbed the Science Avengers. So, how can Dr. Selvig be dead in this clip from Avengers: Endgame if he is one of the main characters in an entire book set after Avengers: Infinity War?

One possibility is that Dr. Selvig is only presumed dead. Im sure with over 3 billion people snapped out of existence at once, it would take a while to know for sure who is and isnt still alive. Weve also seen the Avengers looking at an image of Scott Lang in these kinds of scenes in the trailers so they can be wrong. Of course, he was in the Quantum Realm.

We also know that Marvel is totally willing to add footage and change things and design the trailers to throw us off so that we dont know too much when we see the film. That could be a possibility here, but that effort for a character we havent seen in an entire Phase would seem unnecessary.

I dont know that well get a firm answer that clears up this disparity, but if I were to guess, I would say that sometimes the simplest answer is the correct one. This is just a book and I dont think Marvel is super concerned about the canonical complications from it. The movies are what takes precedence and are the official canon. We see this in Star Wars too, where the books are supposed to be canon, but their level of tie-in with the new films has amounted to a few Easter eggs at best.

So I think we can probably count Dr. Selvig among those hoping for an undusting until we hear otherwise. You can check out the new clip with Dr. Selvigs digital headstone in the video below.

How Much Toy Story 4 Could Make Opening Weekend

This summer is absolutely stacked with movies, and one of the most high-profile is Toy Story 4. It's been nine years since Toy Story 3 and the new film in the series will find Buzz and Woody reuniting with Bo Peep and trying to find their way back to Bonnie. There's a lot of love for the Toy Story franchise and it sounds like the new film is in for a pretty healthy opening weekend, should all go well. Early tracking for Toy Story 4 has the movie opening to as much as $130 million.

Everybody is talking about Avengers: Endgame and how that film is breaking every record under the sun, but this is only the start of the summer season. There are plenty of other movies that are aiming for box office supremacy, and Toy Story 4 has a solid shot at becoming the highest-grossing animated film of the year.

While we are still a good distance away from the film's June release date, early tracking for Toy Story 4 is already in progress. According to Box Office Pro, the film could open within the range of $105 million to $130 million.

There are a number of factors that could swing this projection. The Toy Story franchise has a lot of nostalgia attached to it, and given the nine-year gap between films, older fans may want to bring kids who were born after Toy Story 3 and introduce them to the franchise. Additionally, reactions to trailers and other footage have been positive, as well as reactions to new characters like Forky.

However, Toy Story 3 is seen as the perfect conclusion to the series by some viewers, so they may not feel compelled to check out the latest adventure. This wouldn't really deter younger fans, but interest in the film amongst older generations isn't as high as it was for Finding Dory and Incredibles 2 by this point, according to Box Office Pro.

The film will also open two weeks after The Secret Life of Pets 2, which could cause Toy Story 4 to have a deflated opening if the Illumination sequel is well-received.

Comparatively, this opening projection is fairly in line with Toy Story 3, which grossed $110 million opening weekend. However it falls behind two of Pixar's most successful films box office-wise. Finding Dory opened with $135 million while Incredibles 2 was Pixar's best opening ever with $182.7 million. However, it's still fairly early, and projections tend to change the closer it gets to the release date.

The Matrix Turns 20: Here's What The Cast Looks Like Now

Next month marks the twentieth anniversary of the 1999 action sci-fi film The Matrix. Two decades after its release in one of the best years for movies ever, The Matrix still holds up and it is plain to see how much it has influenced the movies that followed it in the new millennium. Despite a pair of sequels that couldnt live up to the original (an arguably impossible task) The Matrix remains a seminal film of the 90s, the sci-fi genre, and cinema as a whole.

The success of The Matrix and its lasting impact are due as much to the films cast as they are to its groundbreaking special effects and mind-bending cyberpunk story. Twenty years is a long time and, while not all of the cast members of that beloved film have become blockbuster mainstays, many of them can still be seen today on screens big and small.

So lets catch up with the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar and one particularly nasty program to see the cast of The Matrix then and now. Take a look.

Keanu Reeves (Neo)If you dont know what Keanu Reeves has been up to in the twenty years since he got the role Will Smith turned down in The Matrix, your name must be Rip Van Winkle. Already an action star thanks to Speed and Point Break, Keanu Reeves has remained a constant presence on the big screen to this day.

After The Matrix and its sequels, Keanu Reeves remained an actor known for action and science fiction with roles in films like Constantine, A Scanner Darkly, The Day the Earth Stood Still and 47 Ronin. Keanu Reeves also achieved an incredible feat, starring in another popular action trilogy, the John Wick series, the third film of which releases later this year.

Keanu Reeves has also continued his career as a leading man in romance movies and rom-coms in films like Sweet November in 2001, The Lake House in 2006 and Destination Wedding in 2018. In 2019, besides his return as John Wick, Keanu Reeves also joins Toy Story 4 in an unspecified role. Beyond that, there is a fan hope he will one day show up in the MCU as well as the always-lingering possibility of Bill & Ted 3.

Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity)Carrie-Anne Moss was primarily a TV actress prior to 1999, but her role as Trinity in The Matrix took her career to the next level and in the two decades since she has been a presence on both film and television. She has even lent her voice to the popular Mass Effect series of video games.

Carrie-Anne Moss showed up in Christopher Nolan's 2000 breakout Memento. She also had roles in a wide range of films like Chocolat, The Chumscrubber and Disturbia. In more recent years, Carrie-Anne Moss has been in the swords-and-sandals flick Pompeii as well as the based-on-a-true-story drama Brain on Fire.

Like a few of her Matrix co-stars, Carrie-Anne Moss has also found herself in the realm of superheroes with her role as Jeri Hogarth on Netflixs recently cancelled Marvel series, primarily Jessica Jones, which will air its final season later this year. Next up for Carrie-Anne Moss is the Norwegian limited series crime drama Wisting.

Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus)Laurence Fishburne had a long a career prior to his role as the enigmatic Morpheus in The Matrix and in the two decades since he gave us a choice between red and blue pills, the actor has been cast in a diverse array of projects across film and television.

In just the twenty years since The Matrix blew peoples minds, Laurence Fishburne has worked with a whos who of Hollywood directors including Clint Eastwood, J.J. Abrams, Steven Soderbergh and Richard Linklater in Mystic River, Mission: Impossible III, Contagion and Last Flag Flying respectively. He has also remained a genre favorite, showing up in both the DC and Marvel comic book movie universes, in the former as Perry White in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and in the latter just last year as Bill Foster in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Laurence Fishburne has also had long stints on TV in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Hannibal and black-ish. The man they call Morpheus has a big 2019 lined up for him too. He will again work with Richard Linklater in Whered You Go, Bernadette and he reunites with Keanu Reeves for John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum.

Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith)Hugo Weavings Agent Smith was a truly diabolical entity with utter contempt for the human race. He wound up becoming the primary antagonist throughout The Matrix trilogy and the fact that it still might not be his best-known role says a lot about the career Hugo Weaving has had. There are few, if any, actors known more for their memorable roles in genre films than Hugo Weaving, who has played both detestable villains and heroic freedom fighters.

After the original Matrix, Hugo Weaving appeared as Elrond in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and went on to reprise that role in The Hobbit films. Hugo Weaving voiced Megatron in the Transformers franchise, played V in V for Vendetta and was Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger. He also reunited with the Wachowskis for Cloud Atlas. Most recently, Hugo Weaving starred as the villainous Valentine in Mortal Engines.

His talents arent strictly for science fiction and fantasy fare either. The prolific actor also starred in The Dressmaker in 2015 and in Mel Gibsons Hacksaw Ridge in 2017. Hugo Weaving has shown up on the small screen too, just last year opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in the miniseries Patrick Melrose.

Joe Pantoliano (Cypher)In The Matrix, Joe Pantoliano played the weasely Cypher who betrayed his friends and crewmates to Agent Smith, desiring to return to the blissful ignorance of the Matrix to be someone important, like an actor. That didnt work out for Cypher but Joe Pantoliano has certainly had a prolific career as an actor since 1999.

Some of the highlights of Joe Pantolianos post-Matrix career, which includes parts in both film and television are Memento in 2000, along with his Matrix co-star Carrie-Anne Moss, and his role as Ralph Cifaretto on HBOs The Sopranos. Joe Pantoliano also reunited with his Matrix directors the Wachowskis for a role in the Netflix series Sense8. On the horizon, Joe Pantoliano is reprising his role as Captain Howard for the action-comedy threequel Bad Boys for Life.

Matt Doran (Mouse)In The Matrix, actor Matt Doran played the heroic and hilarious Mouse, designer of the woman in the red dress and philosopher about machine taste buds. After The Matrix, Matt Doran had a small role in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones as death stick dealer hilariously named Elan Sleazebaggano on Coruscant.

In 2013 Matt Doran starred with Dolph Lundgren in Battle of the Damned and he also had a role in 2017s Ashley Judd film Trafficked. His next onscreen appearances will be opposite Vikings Travis Fimmel in Danger Close and in the thriller Intersection.

Belinda McClory (Switch)Belinda McClorys Switch stood out from the rest of the Nebuchadnezzar crew who had dark hair and donned all black with her bleached blond locks and all white attire. Her Not Like This death is now immortalized in memes and the actress herself has racked up plenty of film and television credits in the twenty years since that blockbuster.

The Australian actress starred with Ben Mendelsohn in the comedy-drama Mullet in 2001 and opposite Joel Edgertonin 2008s Acolytes. Belinda McClory also starred in four seasons of the Australian television series The Doctor Blake Mysteries, which U.S. audiences can find on Netflix. She next returns to the sci-fi genre for The Wheel, which is scheduled for release this year.

Julian Arahanga (Apoc)Julian Arahangas Apoc was probably the member of the Nebuchadnezzar crew that got the least to do in The Matrix, mostly standing in the background as a quiet badass and lamenting the bowl of snot they were forced to eat. Julian Arahanga hasnt done much acting since The Matrix with his most notable roles coming in his fathers film Fracture in 2004 and The Ferryman in 2007, in addition to several short film appearances.

Julian Arahanga has mostly moved behind the camera through his AWA Films company in his native New Zealand. He has directed 21 episodes of his documentary series Songs from the Inside about musicians teaching inmates songwriting, as well as the doc Beyond the Battalion. Next up he executive produces his wife Becs Arahangas short Hinekura.

Marcus Chong (Tank)Marcus Chong played Tank, a homegrown child of Zion in The Matrix. Tank was the ships operator who first helped Neo to learn Kung Fu. Despite his character surviving the first film, he did not return for the sequels and was replaced by Harold Perrineaus Link.

In the time since The Matrix, Marcus Chong has mostly had one-off roles on TV series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Numb3rs and Burn Notice. He also starred opposite Tara Reid, Danny Trejo and David Boreanaz in The Crow: Wicked Prayer. Marcus Chongs most recent film credits are a pair of short films in 2013.

Anthony Ray Parker (Dozer)Like his brother Tank, Dozer was born in Zion, not grown. The pilot appeared to be a warm comforting presence on the Nebuchadnezzar brought to life through actor Anthony Ray Parkers performance. Cyphers betrayal and murder of Dozer meant that Anthony Ray Parker didnt show up in The Matrix Reloaded or The Matrix Revolutions, but his career continued outside of the Matrix.

Anthony Ray Parker has lent his voice to multiple Power Rangers series and has also appeared on TV in the series The Resolve and Starzs ambitious and underrated Spartacus. On the movie front, Anthony Ray Parker had a role in John Cenas feature film debut The Marine in 2006. More recently, he was in the fantasy thriller Muse in 2017 and opposite Eric Roberts in 2018s Lone Star Deception. Next up hes got the horror film Hoax and the sci-fi flick Ara.

Its been twenty years but many of the stars of The Matrix are still kicking ass and entertaining audiences on TV and in the theater, long after they taught us that there is no spoon. As the science fiction classic celebrates its twentieth anniversary, the cast should look back with pride, knowing that they were a part of a film that stands an important moment in cinematic history.

Why Jurassic World 3 Could End Up Being The Best Of The Trilogy

Warning: SPOILERS for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom are ahead!

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has been open in theaters for a few weeks globally now, and reception towards the sequel have been decidedly mixed. Granted, it doesn't look like this will affect its overall box office performance, but Fallen Kingdom definitely seems to be more polarizing than its predecessor, 2015's Jurassic World. Nevertheless, it's already been confirmed that Jurassic World 3 will arrive in 2021, and Colin Trevorrow will be back in the director's chair. No doubt be a while until we learn specific plot details concerning the threequel, but given how Fallen Kingdom set the stage for what's to come, if properly handled, Jurassic World 3 has the potential to be the best entry in this trilogy. That's because it would be the first of the World films to finally take us into territory that hasn't been explored in any of the previous Jurassic Park installments.

Much like how Star Wars: The Force Awakens felt similar to A New Hope, Jurassic World had a lot in common with Jurassic Park. For both of the 2015 movies, the intent was to give moviegoers enough of the familiar to balance the new elements brought in, and judging by both of these movies' box office returns, this approach paid off. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's plot was more unique, as it saw dinosaurs being rescued from the soon-to-be destroyed Isla Nublar, and then the main protagonists had to stop the surviving dinosaurs from being sold off to the highest bidders. That said, because those dinosaurs were brought back to the mainland, there was still an air of The Lost World: Jurassic Park, as the last part of that movie saw a T-rex breaking free and briefly rampaging across San Diego. Unlike The Lost World, however, there's no going back at the end of Fallen Kingdom. As far as we know, Jurassic World 3 won't take place on an island again, like Jurassic Park III did. The dinosaurs escaped the Lockwood estate and are roaming free across the United States. This can't be bottled up again, and humanity is going to have to face the consequences of select individuals bringing these long-extinct creatures back to life.

But it isn't dinosaurs and humans forced to coexist with one another that marks our venture into uncharted territory. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom also threw human cloning into the mix, as it was revealed that Benjamin Lockwood's granddaughter, Maisie, was actually a clone of his deceased daughter. No one blinks an eye at dinosaurs being cloned in this world anymore, but Maisie's existence unquestionably changes the game. Even though Benjamin Lockwood is dead, you can bet that eventually someone will try to replicate his work (I have my eye on you, Dr. Wu). Maisie grew at a natural rate, but just imagine if there was a way to accelerate the growth of human clones. If the Attack of the Clones subtitle wasn't already taken, I'd wonder if it was in contention for Jurassic World 3.

Officially, all we know so far about Jurassic World 3's story so far is that it will not include any hybrid dinosaurs, which was made clear when the T-rex stepped on the Indominus rex bone. That's a good step towards ensuring that Jurassic World 3 feels different from its predecessors, but it's the freed dinosaurs and human clones that ideally bode well for the threequel. Even though Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom are both commercially successful, overall they're haven't been considered critically exceptional, as inevitably there are comparisons drawn to the Jurassic Park movies. In some part that's unavoidable, but at least the developments from Fallen Kingdom have finally taken us to a point of no return. The idea of humans and dinosaurs being forced to live alongside each other reminds me of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and while dinosaurs will always be the main attraction, human clones could potentially pose an added danger. Enough additional originality has been thrown in to thoroughly distinguish the upcoming movie from what's come before, and if there's one thing that film fans crave, it's novelty.

Let's be honest with ourselves, it's doubtful that any future Jurassic movies will ever come close to match the 1993 original, and for good reason. But the goal shouldn't necessarily be to surpass Steven Spielberg's first dino-filled outing, but rather to embark on a new path while still honoring the mythology. All of this isn't to say that we know for sure Jurassic World 3 will be better than its predecessors, but if Colin Trevorrow and the cast and crew play their cards right, then not only can it be an worthy conclusion to the World trilogy, but these status quo changes and whatever shocking twists Jurassic World 3 delivers could potentially pave the way for a new trilogy/separate series of films that will excite fans and casual moviegoers alike in a way we haven't seen in a while.
